Designer Looks for Less: Chanel Handbag Alternatives
First, I will admit that I am a handbag girl. I do splurge on handbags; however, many of them are purchased on consignment, because I love the hunt for a great deal. Having said that, I also love the hunt for great designer looks for less. There is something SO satisfying about finding a great deal and getting to share it with you!
My social feeds are filled with Chanel handbags, iconic symbols of luxury and sophistication. But these bags are CRAZY expensive. Prices are routinely increasing 6-9% year over year, making them great investment bags, but still costing a fortune. So I have been on the lookout for designer looks for less that would give Chanel vibes without the Chanel price tag.
Persamen Quilted Cross Body Bag
This stylish crossbody bag from Persamen is a great alternative to the classic Chanel 2.55. It features a sleek design, high-quality leather, and a spacious interior. The only major difference is the strap. The Chanel 2.55 has an all gold link strap while the designer for less version Persamen handbag has the typical chanel strap, leather corded through the gold chain. The Chanel 2.55 mini version comes it at a hefty $5200 while the Persamen designer for less bag costs $110. The Charles Keith Cressida bag is a smaller version offering a designer look for less at just $68.
Rebecca Minkoff Chevron Quilted Love Crossbody Bag
The Rebecca Minkoff Chevron Quilted Love Bag is another affordable option that offers a similar aesthetic to Chanel’s flap bags. It’s crafted from luxurious leather and features a timeless design. Both bags can be styled on the shoulder or crossbody. The Chanel Flap bag is probably their most iconic bag, setting you back $11,500; quite a hefty price tag for a handbag. The Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag, providing a very similar look and feel, costs $328.
Fred and Tiffany Quilted Hobo
The Chanel Hobo bag is one of my favorite styles, but at $5400, I’d rather find an alternative. I discovered this handbag on Amazon of all places! And I loved it so much I purchased it in black and khaki. At only $19 this quilted hobo bag is a fabulous designer look for less. Note that this is not genuine leather.
I know for some ladies, you love leather. So I did find a leather alternative from one of my favorite handbag designers, Tiffany and Fred. They have a ton of designer looks for less. This quilted leather handbag looks so similar to the Chanel Hobo for a fraction of the cost at $179.
Karl Lagerfeld Lafayette Camera Bag
This Karl Lagerfeld Lafayette Camera Bag is a beautiful and affordable alternative to the Chanel Camera Case, which will set you back $4700. The Lafayette bag is $110 and has a similar feel to the designer bag.
If you prefer something even more affordable, this Lola Mae handbag is just $20 and even has the front pocket seen on the Chanel Camera Case. Keep in mind that this Lola Mae bag is not leather, but looks like a first cousin to the Chanel bag.
Styling Tips for Designer for Less Looks
I do love my designer looks for less. But I am a stickler for details. My bags don’t always have to be leather, but in the instances they are not, they have to look and feel fabulous. These are my top 4 tips to achieving a luxurious look on a budget:
- Quality over quantity: Invest in a few well-made pieces rather than buying many low-quality items. There is a place in my closet for lower quality items, but I really do prefer to invest in quality more as these pieces will last much longer.
- Pay attention to details: Even affordable items can look luxurious if you pay attention to details like stitching, fabric quality, and fit. I never recommend anything here that I haven’t either personally used, tried or seen in stores. Sometimes I am familiar with something I recommend here from a friend, also
- Accessorize wisely: A few carefully chosen accessories can elevate any outfit. Don’t over accessorize. Let one or two items you’re wearing be the focal point. Otherwise, your outfit competes against each other and you.
- Confidence is key: The most important thing is to feel confident in what you’re wearing. If something doesn’t suit you or feel comfortable, pass on it. Because when you walk into a room confidently, it shows. The same, unfortunately, is also true. Wear what you love!
By choosing affordable alternatives to Chanel bags, you can achieve a luxurious look without breaking the bank. Remember, it’s not about the price tag; it’s about how you wear it. With a little creativity and confidence, you can look and feel like a million dollars.
